This is regarding the exit rules for a PhD candidate registered at an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). I would like to know if a candidate admitted in an IIT for Ph.D. (with M.Tech qualification) leaves his/her degree midway, does he/she have to refund the full amount of scholarship/stipend received till date.
It is noteworthy that the institute has not informed of such rules prior to admission either in writing or oral communication. The scholarship/stipend I am referring to is granted by MHRD (under various names at different IITs) for Teaching Assistantship to candidates admitted through Ph.D. entrance test.
If the candidate indeed has to return the amount received as scholarship, what kind of compensation did he/she receive against the service provided by him/her in form of research and teaching assistantship duties till date. Please clarify the rules regarding the same because PG ordinances are usually unclear in this aspect. For your reference, I am attaching the PG ordinance of IIT (BHU), which nowhere mentions anything about the refund rules.
