I am a pre final year student of integrated M.Sc tech, applied geology studying in Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. I am from the batch which will pass out in the year 2017 I.e took admission in 2012. We obtain our GPA according to the absolute grading system. From our junior batch, the student ls who took admission from 2013, relative grading was introduced which is a effort to be lauded as all the other IITs have the same system.\nIn our third year, 3 year M.Sc tech students join us and complete their degree along with us. In ours and the senior batch, the M.Sc.Tech students who took admission and joined us in our respective batches were admitted under the new rules, i.e they were marked on the relative scale.\nNow the problem is, the M.Sc tech students and we, the Integrated M.Sc tech students study together, have the same teachers, same question paper but get results differently. It is always the case that M.Sc tech students have higher grades than us even though the marks received are similar because of the facts that they were evaluated on a relative scale and we on absolute.\nApplying for internships, scholarships, admission to higher education all these require a good GPA. As the M.Sc tech students are the same batch, they always get an upper hand as they are marked relatively, which is very unfair.\nSame course, Same teachers, Same marks but different grades. Its egregious.\nWe had approached the administration for help but it went in vain. Why should the two people of the same batch upon receiving same marks get two different GPA
