Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors (YUVA)

In tune with the Prime Minister’s vision of Global Citizen and as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Ministry of Education, launched PM-YUVA Mentorship Scheme to train young and budding authors (below 30 years) in order to promote reading, writing and book culture in the country, and project India and Indian writings globally. A total of 75 authors were selected through an All India Contest conducted in 23 languages from 1 June to 31 July 2021.

National Book Trust, India as the Implementing Agency undertook the phase-wise execution of the Scheme under well-defined stages of mentorship. The books prepared under this scheme will be published by NBT-India; and will also be translated into other Indian languages ensuring the ex-change of culture and literature, thereby promoting ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'.

India@75 Series

It is a new series to document the contributions of various personalities, the making of new dynamic cities, historic events, and other socio-cultural, political, economic ideas and themes that have made India into a mature, independent, strong nation post-1947 taking forward its ancient wisdom and culture with a progressive and modern vision. The series focuses on imparting these ideas in a reader-friendly manner to the young readers (12+) of the country, and stands on four conceptual pillars: People, Places, Events and Themes. Publication of a set of 75 books on freedom fighters is also a part of the series.

Bilingual Books

Under the guidelines of National Education Policy 2020, NBT-India has brought out bilingual books in Asamiya-English; Hindi-English; Malayalam-English; Marathi-English; Odia-English; Punjabi-English; Telugu-English and Urdu-English format according to the needs of the young readers.

Books in Tribal Languages

With an objective to promote all major, minor and tribal languages of India, NBT-India has been bringing out books in various tribal languages including Asuri, Bhatri, Bhili, Biho, Bhumij, Bhutia, Birajia, Bodo, Garo, Gondi, Ho, Halbi, Khasi, Kokborok, Lepcha, Mizo, and Santhali. NBT-India is now bringing out original titles in tribal languages in an innovative trilingual format. A set of books in Gondi-Bhatri-Halbi format are being published.

Knowledge Communication Centres

To promote 360 degree learning for public at large, NBT-India has developed Public Reading Spaces as libraries – better known as the Knowledge Communication Centres – providing reading-related infrastructure, created especially at public spaces for all age groups, in order to provide a platform for all those who believe in the idea of Education as a Transformation tool for the society. NBT-India has as set-up about 15 such centres across the country including Haryana, Karnataka and Puducherry.

Indian Knowledge System Series

Considering the wide-ranging focus on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) as enunciated in the National Education Policy 2020, NBT-India is set to launch a dedicated publishing series on IKS, which will not only bring out books on traditional and indigenous knowledge systems in the fields of philosophy or literature, but also in the fields of mathematics, science, astronomy, yoga, architecture, medicine, agriculture, engineering, linguistics, sports, among others. The books under the series will cater to general readers as well as the young readers (+12). There will also be special emphasis on some rare and out-of-print books matching with IKS in order to revive them and place them before the contemporary readers.
