According to the 7th Pay Commission, applicants for the post of professor at IITs need 10 years of experience, including 4 years as associate professor at an IIT and excluding the years spent while pursuing PhD. The rule is silent about considering the research experience before starting PhD. Therefore this RTI seeks the following clarification: To satisfy this requirement of 10 years of experience to apply for the post of professor at an IIT, can RESEARCH EXPERIENCE BEFORE PhD also be considered, if the candidate also does have more than 4 years of experience as associate professor at an IIT.
